Expectations
Before the experience, what did you think would happen?
I didn't really know what to expect because of how young I was. I was extremely excited but crazy nervous. I knew that I was going to have a great time but underestimated the impact one week could have on me.
What did you expect to gain from an educational stand-point?
I felt that I would learn how to care for many types of people in many different situations. I want to become a nurse and a big part of that occupation is being able to care and comfort people on their worst days.
What new knowledge did you hope to gain from this experience?
I really wanted to learn about different lifestyles that other families live through. My youth group focuses a lot on trying to help families in poverty so this mission trip gave me a better perspective of how to be thankful for what I have and realize how lucky I am to have the life I am living.
What new relationships did you gain from this experience?
I was able to meet and work with new people that I have never met before and got to know them faster than ever. I was the young one on this trip so I had many people looking out for me. They cared for me like they've known me since I was a child. It was amazing to see how fast a relationship could grow under these circumstances.
How did you think you would benefit from your involvement?
I thought that I would benefit from the overall impact I would get from traveling the world. I will learn different ways of surviving since we were focusing on more poverty struck areas.
